Dapto client Jodie*, a 19 year old Indigenous job seeker has changed her life by landing a role in the Voyages Traineeship program for Indigenous job seekers.

Voyages aims to grow the Indigenous workforce at Ayers Rock Resort, and through its Indigenous Traineeship Program provides accredited training to meet the needs of the tourism and hospitality industry.

Trainees are employed by Voyages while undertaking their traineeship and live in dedicated accommodation to support them living and working in Yulara. Trainees who successfully complete their qualifications are guaranteed ongoing employment with Voyages or with Voyages employment partners.

When Konekt Employment Consultant Amy, and Indigenous Mentor Bob pitched the idea of this program to Jodie she was all for it.

Together they filled out the application and prepped Jodie for the interview. She passed the interview stage with flying colours.  Konekt then helped her with some gear to set her up and flights to get her there.

Jodie attended the Australian Centre of Indigenous Tourism Excellence (ACITE) program at Ayers Rock Resort. She was assessed and offered a traineeship commencing early February 2019.

So far, Jodie has really enjoyed the experience.   She has felt homesick at times, though simply calling family or friends has helped.

Jodie believes the experience provided her with a significant increase in her self-confidence, and she now sees a clear pathway to achieving her future employment goals – all the result of taking an opportunity outside her comfort zone.
